From Sterling Feeser: Mrs. Alwine's 2nd grade class. The class was formed with 9 students from Mrs. Budd Class and 9 students from Mrs. Smith's Class at the end of the 1st marking period. 2 students moved into the school district. No one knows the reason for the addition of a new class. I have attempted to find the reason, but no one knows. The 2nd grade teachers were: Mrs. Hamme (classes held at the First Lutheran Church in New Oxford), Mrs. Budd, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Alwine (the class was held in the former nurse's office). This was Mrs. Alwine's re-entry into teaching. She taught Latin prior and during WWII. She stopped teaching when her husband returned from the war to have a family. Mrs. Alwine accepted the 2nd grade teaching position and remained an elementary school teacher (approx. 5 years) until there was an opening in the Business Department at New Oxford High School. Most of the classmates had Mrs. Alwine in high school for Typing or another business course.
From Leslie Orndorff Bechtel: All but one photograph was taken in 7th grade; one photograph of Bonita Haverstock was taken in 8th grade. NOTE: These are photographs from Mrs. Little's 3rd Grade Class. Mrs. Little kept a scrapbook for the year which was her last year of teaching. Prior to her passing on she gave the scrapbook to Leslie Orndorff Bechtel. Mrs.Little taught my Father, Sterling Bert Feeser, when he was in elementary school at a 1-room schoolhouse near New Chester. I do not know how many grades my father had Mrs. Little for a teacher, but he went to elementary school from 1912 - 1918. I was in 3rd grade for the school year 1959 - 1960. SF
